Why do Christians care so much about the environment? Because being a disciple of Christ means carrying out God’s mission on earth and this includes striving to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustaining and renewing the life of the earth.
We recognise that the global climate emergency is a crisis for God’s creation, and unjust to the poor and to future generations. All our actions on cherishing Creation, promoting biodiversity and on aiming for net zero carbon are linked to our Christian mission, as expressed in the Five Marks of Mission.
Net zero is needed by 2030 but it starts now. A significant reduction in carbon footprint is needed every year, year on year.
